Byrd happy to be flying with the Reds

The trade that sent Marlon Byrd from the Phillies to the Reds could be viewed by the outside world as a step into the nether regions of the NL Central.  Don’t expect that to come from the mouth of Byrd himself.

“I’m coming to a team that’s ready to win and I get to hit in THIS lineup,” said the 37-year-old 14-year veteran. “And I love it in the NL Central, a great division. And the Reds have amazing fans. There are positives all around,” Byrd told Fox Sports.

“We have two through seven capable of hitting 30 home runs, each guy,” he said. ” (Brandon) Phillips has done it, (Joey) Votto has done it, Jay Bruce has done it, Todd Frazier was at 29 last year, I’ve hit 25, (Devin) Mesoraco got 25 last year.”

Spring Training opens March 3rd where they will be taking on the Cleveland Indians in Goodyear, Arizona.

“It’s not tough to be a leader when you are a veteran guy and you’ve been around,” Byrd said. “First you want to come in and fit in and be a piece of the puzzle.”

Let the pieces fall where they may, but you have to get your tickets now to see it all take place!
