The Oakland Athletics lost the first two games against the Reds by a combined two runs. Game three, played last night at the Great American Ballpark ended up being a disastrous 6-1 loss, allowing the Athletics to keep from breaking a futility record of a winless road-trip consisting of eight or more games. The seven previous losses came on the road.
“Each and every game that you go through a losing streak like that, there’s just a little more urgency,” A’s manager Bob Melvin said. “There should be. But it’s miserable going home every night. You can’t even enjoy your evening when you’re in a losing streak like that.”
The Reds hit the road for a series against the Atlanta Braves, the Houston Astros and closing out the trip with a two game series at Globe Life Park against the Rangers before returning home to take on the San Diego Padres in a four game series.
